HOUSE CULTURE

April Update

From the desk of Spurgeon House President, Nathan Grogan

I am Nathan Grogan, and I am the president of the House of Spurgeon. The fourth quarter is finally here, and it is flying by. The school year is getting busy academically, and the pressure in the house competition has never been this high. One activity we did soon after spring break was “Are you smarter than a fifth grader?” This trivia game included some of the fifth grade students and tested our ability to recall seemingly basic school questions that might have been lost in the back of our brains years ago. Another thing we did was a wiffle ball tournament. Two houses would play each other at a time, but I also loved seeing the other houses who were not playing supporting and cheering for those who were. Recently, we had Field Day. I was very proud of the way my house handled it, and the others did well also. Even though the other houses teamed up against us twice, we still managed to humbly and respectfully demolish the competition due to pure skill and athleticism that made them fear us. Teamwork and effort were key in our victory. As the end of the competition for the House Cup nears, the title seems to become closer and closer. It’s never too late to make a move and try to seize the prize that all presidents have sought after since the dawn of the house system.
