From the desk of Spurgeon House President, Nathan Grogan
This October, I, as president of the Spurgeon house, have enjoyed watching my house members (and all of logic and rhetoric, in fact,) grow, learn, and compete. Coming into the second quarter after a win for Spurgeon in the first, we had the opportunity to serve our pastors who teach us about God by making breakfast for them and eating with them on October 14. I thought it was delicious and a time that neither students nor pastors will soon forget. After eighth grade and rhetoric attended a leadership breakfast about spiritual disciplines, we jumped into a self-defense activity that is one of our favorites. I am excited for the long-anticipated bike ride, which has been rescheduled for November 4 after a stormy day. It requires students to bring their own bikes and helmets (or walk) and be safe, as we will be riding down Eastwood Road. The fall festival is also coming up, where the traditions of a scarecrow competition and a dance called the Virginia Reel will return from last year. October has been an awesome month for the house system that was filled with learning and growth, as every month should be in a Christian school following the classical model. I hope November can be just as fun as the PPA logic and rhetoric students grow in maturity as they prepare to become men and women. And of course, as always: Go Spurgeon!
